About.

What is the Mediterranean Maudsley Forum (MMF)?
Since 2007, the Institute of Psychiatry of King's College London has regularly exported its worldwide reputation for psychiatric research and clinical care to the centre of the Mediterranean. Thus, in this tradition of new learning and new experiences, the 8th MMF will continue to provide an update on social, psychological and biological aspects of psychiatric disorders, reviewing both advances in understanding the disorders and exciting new methods of treatment.

The 9th MMF takes place in Palermo, 27-30 of May 2024. The final Programme is now available.
REGISTRATIONS open on the 25th of October, on 1st come and 1st serve bases for those attending in person.

You can join us in person or on live streaming from everywhere in the world and:
  • Listen to the lectures while admiring the magnificent venues that host the event
  • Participate in the interactive Q&A sessions
  • Listen to all the sessions at your convenience, if your time zone or work schedule does not allow you to join live

REGISTRATION FORM

The 9th MMF is organised by Professor Sir Robin Murray, Professor of Psychiatric Research, Dr Marta Di Forti, Clinical Reader, and Dr Diego Quattrone, Senior Lecturer from the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London;  Professor Daniele La Barbera, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, and Professor Erika La Cascia from the University of Palermo; and Dr Anton Grech, Director of Mental Health Services in Malta and Senior Lecturer from the University of Malta.

What does the Forum cover?
The speakers are clinical psychiatrists and psychologists, who are well known international experts. They will present the most recent advances in Hot Topics in the fields of Psychotic and Mood Disorders, Addiction, Pharmacological and Psychological Treatment Interventions, Eating Disorders, Genetics and Epigenetics in Psychiatry, Neuroimaging and Neurocognition, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Who is the Forum for?
The course is intended for Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, other Mental Health Professionals as well as Neuroscientists and Students who want to know the latest developments in psychiatry.  We expect about 90 participants from Europe and further afield. So there is plenty of opportunity for interaction with the speakers and other participants. Both new knowledge and lots of fun!

Location
The course is entirely in English.  On the Monday we open the MMF at the Department of Psychiatry of Palermo Medical School. This is still hosted in a section of the monumental Neoclassic building in Sicilian Tufo, surrounded by tropical plants and orange trees, which between the end of the 19th century and the 20th century was part of the “Real Casa dei Matti, funded by the philanthropist and enlightened Baron Petro Pisani who transformed the care of patients with severe Mental Illness in Sicily and beyond” . The Forum will be subsequently held in the “Sala Martorana” in Palazzo Comitini, a magnificent example of Sicilian Baroque in Palermo.
